Lose-A-Palooza

Today is Lose-A-Palooza Day!

In case you didn't know, Weight Watchers is two weeks into their second annual Lose For Good campaign. During the first campaign, held for six weeks in 2008, WW members lost over 4 million pounds, donated 1.5 million pounds of food to local food pantries, and WW itself then donated 1 million dollars to Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger.

This year, we're picking it up again, for a seven week campaign. As WW members lose weight, Weight Watchers again will donate up to 1 million dollars to our charitable partners. Also more than 4000 food drives are being conducted in Weight Watchers meeting rooms around the country. Our goal is to double the amount of food donated last year (from 1.5 to 3 million pounds).

I've never used my blog to toot WW before, but it's a good sized chunk of my life. Especially right now, as I am the lead volunteer for the WW meeting I work at, meaning I organize and am the contact for our food drive. Our meeting set a goal to donate the amount of food that they lose during the Lose For Good campaign (77 pounds so far!). Not only that, but the church we meet in has taken up the challenge to match us item for item. Just by meeting their goal, and the church matching it, our meeting (a total of around 30-35 people) could donate as much as 600 pounds of food to our food pantry, Helping in His Name Ministries.

Today, September 15, is Lose-A-Palooza day. By blogging, spreading the word on Facebook, and Tweeting on Twitter, we can increase WW donation to Share our Strength and Action Against Hunger by as much as 25,000 dollars (see www.loseapalooza.com for details)!!

If you need some helping losing some pounds, now is the time to step into Weight Watchers. It is Free Registration, Free Month of Monthly Pass, and every pound you lose over the next 5 weeks will go toward helping someone else.

If not, you can still contribute by:
Dropping in a food donation to a WW meeting in your area
Volunteering at a Food Pantry near you

Thanks for sticking with this post. There is so much need right now and so much we can do to help one another!
Feel free to pass this on to others that might be interested.
