Joyful Moments

I have no idea how I got started following this blog, but every now and again I check in on a blog called Abiding Joy.  Every day she comes up with a joyful moment, or something to be grateful for.  She's on day four hundred something now.  I'm not so optimistic about my abilities to blog every day, however I am very aware of my need to document some of these fun things that are happening in my life right now!

Today it was a rain storm.  Before the winds came and branches everywhere.  Before the hail.  I showed Miriam the rain out of the window and she asked me, "Where is my umbrella?"  It made me think of Laurie and her boys taking their umbrellas out to test the sound of the rain on them.   Anyway, we had just gotten out of the bath so I told her to go put clothes on.  This isn't exactly her forte yet (she's not a dress up kind of girl) so her shirt was on backwards  but I really didn't mind at all.  I was pretty proud she really did the whole thing by herself without asking me for help.  Impressed really.

Then we opened up the umbrella and went outside to sit in the rain.  She enjoyed it so much she wanted me to run the hose on the umbrella, which I did for a little while.  I do love our fun spontaneous things like that.

On family preparedness

Every time there is a disaster situation (and often in between)  I get to thinking about emergency preparedness.  Earthquake in Japan?  Tornado(s) in Alabama and Georgia?  This last disaster was close to home.  I start thinking again.

When Miriam was younger I used to have 72 hour kits of clothing, diapers, toys and formula.  As she has gotten older I have found myself slacking.  Frankly, I get a little overwhelmed when I look at some of the different lists out there.    But I know I need to be prepared, and I just need to start with some essentials put together in case we need to grab stuff and go!  Or if there is a disaster and we need first aid supplies all in one place.  Apparently, in a recent blog post, the CDC talked about zombie apocalypse in a recent article.  Zombie Apocalypse. Not kidding see here.  Too funny.

We oft times think getting prepared is too expensive.  I learned several years ago, as I was building a 3 month food supply, that it doesn't have to be.  Getting prepared for the unexpected isn't about about overextending yourself, having it all NOW, or going into debt.  It's about building up here and there, over time with the little bit of extra we might have.

For first aid kits and 72 hour kits, there are several items you probably already have around your house.  Think, - think travel size - soap, toothpaste, a change of clothes, towel, some non perishable food, band aids, etc.  But there will be several things you don't have. One of the places I've been visiting is Emergency Essentials.  They sell food, complete kits, parts of kits, and other preparedness stuff.  They also have a blog and some free tools, like the Food Storage Analyzer.

So I'm busy checking out their site.  I am in a situation that I like to call financially challenged (what with house repairs and new baby coming) so I won't be spending much, but I truly believe a little goes a long way in preparing your family.  That is why the button is up on the right side of my blog. So you can get information you need for your area!  I will be reviewing their Food Storage Analyzer soon!  Let me know if you've tried it out!

Share the wealth

I know you may not believe me when I tell you I have THREE blog posts in the works. I do! Two of which I fully intended to post today! However, sometimes when roving the blogosphere you run into a really fabulous giveaway.

My husband just bought a new tablet for use during his latest adventure ( again, return for future blog posts ). Despite my possession of a great ( smaller ). Apple product I am a little bit envious. Any guesses then?

Yes, this is a shameless plug. I’m posting this to enter a contest offered by MeridaHome at Design For Mankind! I want to win the iPad 2! (and I love Erin’s shoes!)

I'm even going to give you a couple of days to come here and read this before I post my other three posts and this one gets lost in the shuffle. How kind of me right? Anyway, good luck!

Happy Mothers Day!

I am 17 weeks and 4 days today!  After thinking "all was well" I'm having some evening tummy issues and food aversions again.  I'm working through it.  And trying to eat well.  But I'm back on ginger ale.  Weird.
Also, I am now positive that for the last 4 days I've been feeling baby #2 move!  Tonight is an especially active night.  So that's cool.

This weekend I also threw caution to the wind and bought this adorable BOY ensemble at Costco.  It was a bit bigger then I hoped for but it was the LAST ONE dang it and so cute.  Miriam had frog pajamas too and they are awesome. (See below. Just cute)  Anyway, now the Good Lord is probably going to laugh and "smite" me with another girl.  Don't worry, I have the receipt.

Also, don't worry,  I like daughters.

Happy Mothers day to my two favorite people that made me "Mom" around here.  I love you guys!

Food

At this point in my second pregnancy I am still thinking that people that have a bazzilion children( I really just mean 3 or more ) are crazy. This may be because my first trimester is still fresh in my mind. This could also be because I'm still having a lot of troubles relating to FOOD.

This is what I remember about my first pregnancy: nighttime nausea, mildly tired, occasional headache. There honestly could be more- this is what I remember.
Pregnancy two seems to have everything! Exhaustion, all day/night illness, constipation, UTI and now in the second trimester headache, heartburn and back trouble. That's not really what I came to write about though.

FOOD right?

We've been spending buckets on food in the last couple months because I haven't wanted to cook or because I just wanted eat French fries. My nausea is sooooo much better the last few weeks- don't get me wrong. I still occasionally have nighttime nausea. For the last couple of days I really can't figure out what i want to eat. Nothing sounds good. Is this pregnancy or the fact I can't go to the store until payday( which happens to be today)?
My theory is actually this: I couldn't eat peanut butter or meatballs when I was preggo with Miriam. To this day she's not a huge fan of peanut butter or meat( although she'll eat both in certain ways). So.. This child just might be a picky eater who changes his/her mind all the time. Greaaaat.
What do you people do?! If I decide to have another is it just going to get worse?
