Jenna, Kevin, I guess you were right

I've been trying to narrow down something to write about this week.
Topic I decided on: Twilight - now on video!
Bill and I purchased and watched this a week ago. We're both sitting there going - "wow-was it really this awful the first time?" Before you get in a twist about that comment...I'm not saying it was a bad movie. I just....I mean....SHEESH...did everyone really look so constipated the first time I watched this (Jasper excepted because, Yes, he did)? Conversation nearly always punctuated by awkward pauses, lip biting, and unfinished sentences? Did you KNOW that they cut two of the scenes that portray Edward and Bella actually finishing their sentences and you know - teasing and enjoying each other?? Ugh! The end of the movie was enjoyable. Bill and I really didn't remember things being that bad the first time though...probably because we were so thrilled about getting out of the house together without baby - for the first time since we had moved to Georgia (1 month at the time) we were in the mindset of giddy awkward teenager-ness.
We haven't been out together without Miriam for five months now. So, when we do get out, if it's to a movie, and if it is totally awful - I won't even notice!!
By the way, if I could, I would go see Star Trek AND X-Men Origins: Wolverine BOTH TOMORROW. These are not allowed to be awful, only AWESOME. But again, would probably be so thrilled I wouldn't notice.
That all said I am still excited about New Moon.

Easter Bunny on clearance items

I just happened to be at Target picking up some of their gardening items in the dollar bins (of course), and I decided to shop the Easter clearance - cause there was a ton! So I got basket #1 (the rainbow handle) for 2.57 for next year. And Hello Kitty Eggs for 57 cents. And play-doh eggs for 49 cents! They had Storm Trooper easter baskets too. If we had any guarentee of a boy in our furture, I'm pretty sure Bill would have picked one up. I'm so glad I went! Thanks for your imput.

Gardening, take one

I've been container gardening here in the southeast. Except for planting with my dad when I was young, I haven't done much gardening besides transplanting a few flowers into pots on my back porch these last few years. This year I wanted to have flowers but I decided I would also try and grow some produce. So I bought some snapdragons and planted my favorite, Gladiolus, in a big pot. (I recently bought some Morning Glory seeds, but needed some more soil) We also bought some strawberry plants and a green pepper and a tomato plant. My vegetable seeds included zucchini, cucumber, radish, green onion, green bean and pea plants. I have yet to plant my green beans and may have to save my pea plants for a cooler season (not sure about this). But I've planted all the others. I really wasn't sure what I was doing. I figured I was just going to have to try it out. So I tried to follow instructions on the seed packets (as best you can when using a container).

To my gigantic surprise 6 of my 7(or8) Gladiolus bulbs have sprouted. (Yes, I am subjecting you to pictures of my very boring, aka no flowers, plants)
Almost my whole row of radishes popped up. More recently, my green onions are making an appearance. (See their tiny green stalks in the back?)

I've been anxiously peering at the zucchini and cucumber pot for days. (Me: How long are these supposed to take? When did I plant them again anyway? I'm not sure how well this pot is draining - did I over water? How much sun are they getting? It's pretty shady on my balcony, but I can't put them any where else!) This morning though - it happened! There are plants popping up!
Holy crow! (Thanks Stephenie Meyer) Everything I've planted is making a valiant effort! Now I just have to keep them alive!

Uses of Food Storage

Just popping in to encourage you to check out the book seen above this post. In case you've ever wondered what to cook with your food storage items (Will it look any good? Will it taste any good?) This new book looks like a pretty good resource.
If you need some convincing - stop by her blog at http://everydayfoodstorage.net/
There are recipes and how-to VIDEOS and everything.
Let me know what you find and I'll do the same!

Is there like a Gardening Jeopardy out there?

So, I've had a lot on my mind lately - none of which has anything to do with our monthly enrichmnt meetings (yes, monthly, not, quarterly). This is especially true because someone told my husband, when he was picking up a truck on Wednesday, that it was going on at church this week. I thought, hey whatever, you want to plan and execute without me? BE MY GUEST.

As you can see I am really into my church assignment right now.

So imagine my surprise when my Relief Society President calls today and says, "Are you going to be at church tomorrow?" AND "Are things worked out for enrichment this Tuesday?"

Aaaaakk!

Because Clayton County Extension is supposed to have these Master Gardeners who teach free classes to the community. The coordinator told me they preferred hands on. SO I found a location (thanks Sister Owen) and turned in a few dates. THAT, friends, was over a month ago. And notwithstanding a couple other phone messages and emails, I have never heard from that man again. I am really impressed right about now.

So I find myself sitting here trying to plan some sort of gardening enrichment. Me - who has repeatedly bought flowers and left them on my back porch, using a watering can through the summer, but that's it. I AM however growing a few fruits and vegetables this year.

So I need some help. The sisters are going home with their own tomato plant, and care instructions (that I just finished researching and typing up). We are going to be eating Garden Vegetable Soup and bread. I have prinouts about "Organic" Gardening, since that was identified as an interest in our congregation. But what to actually DO WITH THEM FOR 1 1/2 HOURS? No idea. Any suggestions?

I LOVE BEING THE EASTER BUNNY

I may have spent an HOUR at Target today, depriving my child of a decent nap because HOT LAVA did they have some cute Easter stuff to pick from. The above picture does not do the basket justice AND the handle is RAINBOW
And I was also IN LOVE with this basket with it's pretty ears and carried it around for a long time
Plus I carried around 2 packets of Hello Kitty eggs. Until in the end I put it all down and bought a hello kitty SET (which I unfortunately do not have a picture of) including an activity book, chalk, chalk board, stuffed animal, and candy of course. Because the truth was I already bought a (cheap) basket and Miriam would probably just see the hello kitty egg (head) as something to throw like a ball.
And maybe next year when she is 2 1/2 she will appreciate a pretty basket and hello kitty eggs a little more? Any thoughts - because these were SO CUTE I AM STILL considering going back to target and rustling them out of a 10 year olds hands. (Okay so I wouldn't go THAT FAR).
Think they'll have some cute selections next year? Maybe I can bank on finding a good clearance deal next Monday? HELP!

I have a gun and know how to use it...sort of

So - thanks for your comments and sympathy on our family being materially molested by modern day hustlers. "Modern day hustlers" meaning - they didn't rip off an ounce of jewelry - it was all electronic. A collection which we had built up over the last 5 years; camera, laptop, Wii, TV, etc.

I'm not concerned about putting that up on the Internet because guess what? Its all gone! We're estimating the damage around 4600 dollars (original cost)at this point. Renters insurance for the last 5 1/2 years is about to pay off! (Oh after we prove ownership of all the things that were stolen. Don't get me started)

I'm really glad I wasn't here because that would have been extremely frightening. Not that there aren't forms of protection around here, but they broke into the room that contains the form of protection I would've been most interested in. And I'm not sure I could unlock it, put it together and load it, let alone hit a target anyway.

Turns out my next door neighbor was ripped off too, which I just hadn't been told. HIS television was large enough that they couldn't take it with them (which makes me laugh). Not that they didn't try.

Apparently it may have been some people in a purple Jeep that have been seen around ripping off other communities (I think that's what Bill said). So, um, if I see a purple Jeep anywhere NEAR HERE do you think I can convince the police to come and check it out RIGHT NOW?
