Right, so, potty training.
I actually let Miri wear big girl underwear the very next day, from morning until naptime (I may have cheated and rolled up a washcloth to stuff in there every time because - hey - I just got NEW carpet). It seemed to help with her rash. But I couldn't get her to actually sit on her potty much.
She likes her froggy potty, most of the time, but that day it was like "you want me to sit on there? um, no!" So I was able to get her to sit on the big potty. For a few seconds. Frankly I think she just likes to say "done!" climb down, shut the lid, and pretend to flush. On day two of much the same, I did get her to hang out on the big potty - because of the M&M reward.
Thursday we went on bought one of those cushion seats that fit on the big potty, along with a step stool. Friday, I tried it out on her. She would just take the cushion seat off. "That doesn't belong there mom." (Actually what she said was "nokay!")
Saturday morning, I was leaving work around 10:30am (I subbed last minute for an early morning meeting) and I called home to see how things were going. Daddy says "guess what? I think we just used the potty!" Yes, the big potty. Yes, the cushion seat is on it. She used the seat, sat up there, and actually peed. And I missed it.
Sunday: diapers the whole day. I'm thinking I'll continue my half attempts to familiarize Miriam with the potty for the next month while I finish unpacking. I'll talk it up and have her try it and read potty books. But until I'm done unpacking, I don't know if I have this much focus. Although I hate to miss the golden boat, I mean, she did actually USE the potty for the first time yesterday. That has to count for something.

Hey! That's awesome!! Clara has the toilet seat, too. I thought "If I'm tired of changing diapers, having to empty a little potty won't be much different," so we got her that and she calls it "the tushy" because that's the brand "cushy tushy"-- hahaha!
ReplyDeleteAnyway! It's awesome that she went and that the transition is somewhat smooth! :)
I definitely suggest being careful not to miss 'the golden boat'. I've chosen to unpack slower so that I can do Rachel's potty stuff. It's a pain, but I think it's worth it. Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Our little one can use the potty. He knows how to perfectly well...he just won't. At random he'll go in there and use it, but that's all we've got so far. I hope things go quicker for you, I heard girls are quicker at potty training.
ReplyDeleteOh man...potty training...I don't look forward to that! You're doing a great job, though! I hope you're getting settled into your new home! We miss you!!
