Wow did you know that I only posted 4 times in January?
February doesn't really feel like the month of love to me. I'm just trying to turn my attitude a bit. The last week I've had a really short fuse with my daughter, felt ill, and didn't exercise (formally) at all. Technically though, that was still January. So, February is my month to be cheerful, loving, and grateful. It's my month to brighten my home in time for spring.
But first, I have to recover from our SCA trip this weekend.
This weekend we did an overnight event with our local SCA kingdom. We went to a beautiful park about 45 minutes away called Indian Springs State Park. . Friday, we camped overnight in a barracks-like cabin (heated and a big multi person bathroom). I daresay we learned a thing or two about taking this kind of trip (Lesson #1 - day-trip where possible).
Such as - bring an abundant amount of extra blankets. Again, the cabin was HEATED, but Miriam knocked over a gallon of milk on my bunk.
Plan in advance where things 'belong' in your multitudes of bags. Maybe by now you are learning that deep down, I like to organize and am slightly anal. Sometime on Saturday Miriam was carrying around a plastic bag that contained her medicine for her unsightly diaper-rash. I could not find it that evening and indeed, did NOT find it until this afternoon (Sunday). Just in time for the rash to be coming back on with a vengeance. I guess I stuffed it into the diaper bag. But if it had it's own POCKET in the diaper bag maybe we wouldn't be discussing this. It's a nice thought, probably not much of a reality.
Oh - and when you forget to bring your daughters shoes, find Salvation Army. Luckily enough, the only baby shoes they had were size 5. I went ahead and got them both. They were only 2 bucks! (buy one get one free) I might be on my way to being converted into bargain shopping. Might.
On our way into salvation army (dressed in SCA garb which I'll have to post a picture of someday) I said to Bill. "What do you bet someone walks away from here thinking they've seen Amish people?" As it happened, as we were leaving the Salvation Army a lady stopped us and asked what culture we were. Did I call that or what?
Sounds like a fun filled weekend. Hope you are feeling better and that all was found. Gotta love bargain shopping! Love you guys and miss you!
ReplyDeleteOkay, okay! I have to comment on this. Number 1: dressing up like in the Middle Ages!? Going to a meeting with other people who dresses like that, too!? That is very peculiar! (I don't want to say "weird" and be offensive).
ReplyDeleteNumber 2: You're a mom and you're not into bargain shopping!? I've found beeeeeeeeautiful second-hand clothes and toys for Clara at Just Between Friends, here in Spokane. It becoms kind of like an addiction because you can buy so much, so cheap, and in such good conditions and good quality! I love JBF. I love bargain shopping for Clara and for myself, too. :)
Paula - Number 1: Somehow I thought that might entertain you. I understand thinking it's weird, seeing as I had never done anything like it until I married Bill. There is a lot you can do though. You can heavy fight, rapier fight, practice archery, sew, embroider, cook, dance, sing and story-tell. I did tell Bill I think these people are really interested in these things because the Spirit of Elijah is working on them.
ReplyDeleteNumber 2: I'm not a big bargain/garage sale/goodwill shopper. I dislike garage sales where you wonder around looking at other peoples JUNK. Now, that said - I went to JBF big spring sale before we left WA and it was GREAT. AND I don't mind going at it with something in mind to look at/for. I know there are great garage sales/second hand shops around. And I've even found one kids one in Georgia. I don't have to like it. :)
I've never been to a garage/yard sale. I'm curious to see what they have because some things can be hardly used an in good conditions, but yes, it does feel like going through other people's junk. Haha! And Good Will... really depends where you're at. Good Will in Spokane sucks, but I've been to clean, nice Good Wills. Never found anything worth buying, though.
ReplyDeleteAbout this Middle-Age activity you went to, it's funny, I saw a movie where a super geeky guy went to one of these and they fought and blah blah. I don't particularly care for the Middle Ages; for some reason, out of all the ages, that's the one that strikes me as the most untidy and perverted. I do like the Victorian Era, with those pompous dresses, the good manners and stuff. I should see to get one of those dresses at a garage sale! :P
Can you tell me where Just Between Friends is located? I really need to go there and check it out.
ReplyDeleteAlright so here is the website: http://www.jbfsale.com/spokane/
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a twice a year event. Next one is April 17-19 in Spokane.
